I use Wordpress to power my site because it's easy to use. I've been a Wordpress user for about 4 years now. This page will sum up Wordpress's top 5 plugins of 2009. The top 5 plugins were chosen by research on the number of downloads.

This page is great for people setting up their plugins for the first time. These mini tutorials will help you understand Wordpress better. This page will also help you to get your page up and running faster.

TOP 5 WORDPRESS PLUGINS!

1. WP Super Cache

Whether you have a lot of content, widgets, pictures or plug-in's. Super Cache does the job. I found this plugin to be very important because it serves generated static html files from your web server without processing heavy php scripts. Speeding up your page. With permalinks set up it will run a lot more smooth.

I actually found out about "WP Super Cache" after I created my Wordpress page. Which means I saw the change in speed. It was a breath of fresh air to have everything loading 3 times faster.

Unzip the file.
Upload the ’wp-super-cache’ folder to your wp-content/plugins/ directory.
Click Plugins and under "Inactive plugins", Activate "WP Super Cache"
Under the Wordpress Administration panel Enable the Status by clicking ON.

2. Google XML Sitemap

This is a must have. It creates a perfect sitemap of your wordpress blog. It is fully customizable. One of the best things about it is that it updates in all of the major search engines as you create or edit post. (Google, Yahoo, Ask.com etc.)
If you want your page searchable in search engines then you want Google XML Sitemap.

Unzip the file.
Upload the folder "google-sitemap-generator" to your wp-content/plugins/ directory.
Click "Plugins" on the left and under "Inactive plugins" on the plugins page activate "Google XML Sitemaps".
Under "Settings">> XML-Sitemap
It should say your sitemap isn't built yet. You have to build it.

3. Subscribe to Comments

This is one of my favorites. It enables people to sign up for e-mail notifications about your posts. It has a subscription manager that allows people to unsubscribe to certain posts, block all notifications, or change their e-mail address. It's that simple.

Unzip the file.
Upload the folder "subscribe-to-comments" to your wp-content/plugins/ directory.
Click "Plugins" on the left and under "Inactive plugins" on the plugins page activate "Subscribe to Comments".
Then under "Settings" >> "Subscribe to Comments", you will arrive at this page.

4. Advertising Manager (formerly Adsense Manager)

For those of you wanting to generate a revenue off your blog/s. You want to have this equipped. Advertising Manager allows you to pair Wordpress with AdBrite, AdGridWork, Adpinion, AdRoll, Commission Junction, HTML Code, CrispAds, ShoppingAds, Yahoo! PN and WidgetBucks, making it into a "Widget" that can be applied to either side of your blog.

This plugin also allows you to manage your ad units in Wordpress. How cool!

Upload the folder "advertising-manager" to your wp-content/plugins/ directory.
Click "Plugins" on the left and under "Inactive plugins" on the plugins page activate"Advertising Manager".
Now go to "Post" >> Ad Units.
and create a new ad.

5. WP-SpamFree Anti-Spam

This is a plugin you can't forget. It's easy to install & configure. This plugin does exactly what they name says. I've tried a lot of anti-spam plugins but this one by far blows most of them out of the water. It eliminates blog comment spam including trackback and pinkback spam.

Upload the folder "wp-spamfree" to your wp-content/plugins/ directory.
Click "Plugins" on the left and under "Inactive plugins" on the plugins page activate"WP-Spamfree".
Once it's activated go to "Plugins" >> "WP-Spamfree" and it will take you to the settings page. Where it will say...
